Theater
Ah, Mes Amis
2011
On June 26th, 2011, Wang Jianwei, a pioneering video and multimedia artist, was invited by the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA), Beijing International Design Week, and the renowned Italian design magazine Dwelling to present a unique performance at the site of his “Yellow Lights” exhibition – an “in-between” and “undefinable” zone. The artist presented a unique performance at the site of his “Yellow Light” exhibition, an “in-between” and “undefinable” zone. The artist uses the human body as a medium and material, and in the process of experiencing and performing, produces communication and special expression between people and people, people and objects, and people and the environment, and conveys a unique experience of the intersection of theater and exhibition in the exhibition hall of “Yellow Light”.
This performance project is the closing ceremony of “Yellow Light”, a major exhibition launched by Wang Jianwei and UCCA in early April this year. The “Yellow Lantern” exhibition breaks the logic of linear narrative in a four-in-one format, with “Waiting with Fakes”, “”We Know What We’re Doing ……”, ‘The Civil War’ and ”Going to the Thirteenth Floor Conference Room for a Free Movie” four chapters present the narrative in one occurrence.
No one is a bystander when confronted with the “yellow light”. This performance allows the relationship between the performer and the viewer to cross-reference and change-who intervenes and who intervenes, triggering a shift in people’s perspectives and an exploration of the world beyond what is “visible to the naked eye”.
