Spiral Ramp Library
2015
Spiral Ramp Library was created in collaboration with the Studio of Jianwei Wang and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. This performance was created for the commissioned exhibition Wang Jianwei: Temple of Time, presented at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, and sponsored by the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation.
Wang Jianwei: Temple of Time” was on view at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York on October 31st of last year, combining sculpture, painting, and film, with ‘The Library of the Spiral Ramp’ as a key component of the exhibition to be performed on Thursday, February 12th and Friday, February 13th at 8:00pm.
The Spiral Ramp Library, the first commissioned exhibition of the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation’s Chinese Contemporary Art Initiative, draws to a close as it explores the nature of spaces of human knowledge and learning, such as museums and theaters, in order to disseminate contemporary ideas and experiences. Based on a recording of a performance given at the exhibition’s opening reception in the rotunda of the Guggenheim, Wang’s performance encompasses contemporary dance, theater, video, audio, and installation art. In the recording, twenty speakers address ten themes, including Argentina, Jorge Lewis Borges, weather, disappearance, Gnosticism, the Guggenheim, libraries, maps, the universe, and Frank Lloyd Wright.
